How soon is too early to have chips and salsa? I suppose this would be an okay if I was at a brunch, but I can count the times I’ve been to any sort of brunch one one hand and that hand is missing 1-3 fingers. Why am I typing about salsa? It could be that per usual I really have nothing else to talk to about besides there’s a snowstorm that should start soon and dump anywhere from 8” to a foot of wet heavy snow across the greater Twin Cities area. I don’t mind snow what I do mind is falling on pavement when snow and ice are present and I’m afraid I’ll break something. I’ve already cracked two elbows and a wrist in the last five years than I have in my entire life and I got hit by car once.

Cheater Home Is Where the Heart Is
If had to guess, I would say Cheater is from Southern California. Not only did they record Home Is Where the Heart Is at Westbeach Records and that drummer Christopher Webb was on the No Doubt demo, annnd Mark Phillips was in Down By Law, the band just sounds like they are from SoCal. So yeah, you got your typical melodic skatepunk here that sounds like Pennywise with Mike Ness singing for them. Topics on here include being broken hearted, dating a punk girl that ends up on the streets, and of course, there must be a song about a girl that breaks up with whoever in the band and starts dating another girl. Bro, say it ain’t so! Also, I wouldn’t be a comic nerd without mentioning I did like the Kirby-eque artwork throughout the record. (Theologian Records, 1998) Spotify
Cheater Experience all the Hate
More of the same, literally. This seven-song EP has “Teenage Zero”, “Soulmate”, and “Misery Town” from the previous release plus four new songs. Not so bro-ish on here which is a relief. Jim Lindberg from Pennywise does some backing vocals on this. This was released in April of 1998, and I cannot find a date for Home Is Where the Heart Is. So, if these releases should be switched around, then I apologize. (Still Pole Records, 1998) YouTube
The Cheeks Have Some Real Fun And Sure 'Nuff Action With The C-14 Hit Machine Gun
Fun snappy power pop/pop punk from Solingen, Germany. (Screaming Apple, 1997) Not currently streaming anywhere
Chelsea The Alternative
Another ’77 UK punk still chugging it out in the 90s. The Alternative is decent driving punk with a slight new wave and post punk edge but suffers in its overlength. (Alter Ego, 1993) YouTube
Chelsea Traitors at the Gate
When this album was originally released in 1994 the severed heads on pike were blacked out. On the reissue that came out in 2016 the heads were revealed to be Bob Geldof, John Lyndon, Bono, Malcolm McLaren, Billy Idol, Sting, and Axl Rose. All traitors to PUNK! Oh man, that is great. Anyhow, Traitors at the Gate sounds like The Alternative but it also way too long. (Weser Label, 1994) Spotify
Chemical People The Right Thing
The third album from this SoCal trio with Ed Urlik (later of Down by Law) writing the songs with drummer Dave “Naz” Nazworthy. Dave also sings all of them, so take note singing drummer fans. The Right Thing is chock full of snappy pop-punk/power pop songs with the bubbliest of basslines ever. Songs are about porno, porno mags, donuts, and Aquaman. (Cruz Records, 1990) Spotify
Chemical People Angels ‘N’ Devils
This CDep compiles the band’s Ask the Angels and Cum, Blister, Bleed 7”s. “Ask the Angels” is a Patti Smith cover. There are a couple of decent rocking tunes and then a very long horrible rap song and a couple of throwaway tracks. One of those tracks has Bug Phace on guitar. You may recognize the name as All’s roadie. (Cruz Records, 1991) YouTube
Chemical People Soundtracks
All instrumentals with most of them on the slower hard rocking side of things with one dub sounding song tossed in for good measure. (Cruz Records, 1991) YouTube
Chemical People Self-Titled
Even though this album features such people as Brett Gurewitz (this album was records at Westbeach Recorders, ‘natch) Kim Shattuck, Jay Bentley, and Steve McDonald on backing vocals, the album is mostly made of slower hard rock songs with some trumpet here and there. “I Gotta Know” is an Elvis Presley song. (Cruz Records, 1992) YouTube
Chemical People Arpeggio Motorcade
Not a terrible way to go out but Chemical People’s final album is still made up of hard rock influenced power pop with the occasional saxophone and this time, some flute. (Cruz Records. 1997) YouTube
Until next time,
I think you still have more fingers than I do.
